If a director gets Pawan’s dates then there is no need for him to toil hard. Come up with story riding on Pawan’s image, just place a weapon in Pawan’s hands, create a mannerism, add four fights and six songs, the job is done. The movie will sure become a hit. That’s the power of Pawan Kalyan. His cut-out draws huge crowds. Just his presence translates a movie into blockbuster. But if a director scores a hit solely based on Powerstar’s image then what is his greatness? Exactly with this thought, Trivikram has come up with a brand new plot for Powerstar. Trivikram has placed a huge mass hero like Pawan Kalyan in a complete class story. Trivikram took the risk of placing a high voltage action star like Pawan in a tender and touching family drama. How much risk a director has to take to title a movie starring mass hero like Pawan as Attharintiki daredi? Trivikram has taken that risk. More importantly Powerstar has shown his guts by supporting Trivikram in this classy act. As a result, a new side of Pawan Kalyan has been unveiled in this movie. Let’s find out to what extent this director-hero duo succeeded in satisfying mass and class audience simultaneously and what Attharintiki daredi offers viewers.
Raghu Nandan (Boma Irani) is a crorepati staying in Italy. Gautam Nanda (Pawan Kalyan) is his grandson. He believes that real joy lies in relationships rather than in money. Though Raghu Nandan is stinkingly rich he is constantly worried about one thing. His daughter Sunanda (Nadiya) is far away from him. One fine morning he asks his grandson Gautam, ”Every year on birthday I used to give you a gift. This time I am asking you a gift. Will you bring your aunt?” Thus on the wish of his grandpa, Gautam comes to India for his aunt Sunanda. Sunanda owns a five star hotel but is in debts. Gautam saves Sunanda’s husband (Rao Ramesh) from an accident and gets close to him. He joins Sunanda’s family as driver with the name Siddu. Prameela (Praneetha) and Sasi (Samantha) are Sunanda’s two daughters. Joining as an ordinary driver Gautam solves aunt’s problems and creates a festive mood in the family. But a new problem surfaces. What’s that problem? How Gautam deals with it? Did he change his aunt’s mind? are the main parts of the story.
Coming to story, it’s not a great one. It’s not even a new story. But it has scope for narrating in a new way. Trivikram has utilised this opportunity. He has designed this family story around a mass hero like Pawan. This movie is a sweet shock for Powerstar fans. People who throng to theatres expecting Pawan style of masala will have a completely new experience. In crisp this movie is an answer for criticism, ”Why directors and heroes always think in the same old way and don’t come out of set formula?” In one word, this is not a movie to be done by Pawan. But credit has to be given for both Pawan and Trivikram for trying a family story instead of mass masala movie.
Trivikram’s movies are known for punches. At least one punch has to be there for every scene. Trivikram ran the movie living up to this expectation. Movie starts with Samantha’s kidnap episode. Story shifts to India after showing Pawan’s heroism in Italy. Nadiya’s home environs, Pawan’s hungama with two sister-in-laws (mardallu), his funny efforts to get into driver’s role, all these create comedy and take movie forward in an entertaining way. Emotions have been carried well in between these entertaining episodes. Though movie dulls a bit post interval, Trivikram quickly drags it back to track. Using his trademark punches and Powerstar’s style, Trivikram takes the movie to climax. With a bit of action, movie ends. With sentiment interspersed at appropriate moments Trivikram crafted it into a family movie.
Unlike star heroes ‘one man show’ this movie is a three man show. Pawan, Trivikram and Devi Sri Prasad are the three pillars of this movie. Pawan steers a simple story in a very impressive way with his image and dialogue delivery. Though Pawan is a natural actor he goes overboard at times. This time Trivikram took care of that excesses and showed Pawan in a restrained way. Pawan appears very handsome in this movie. Trivikram has shown Pawan so glamorously that this is the first time Pawan is appearing so handsome after Kushi. All through the movie camera is focused on Pawan. There is nothing wrong in it. Because Pawan’s image is so much important for this story and movie. If this movie was done by any star other than Pawan Kalyan it would have been bombed.
Trivikram crafted even a normal scene as an excellent one with his taking values. Though Trivikram’s liking for rhyming dialogues has gone overboard at times, punches have clicked in a big way. ”Ammayira abhimanam vuntundhi..koduku nanna kopama vuntundhi”, ”ontlo pattu thaggaka..mee thathaki pattudala thagginda..” are just a few examples of Trivikram mark punches. Trivikram has done an excellent job both as a writer and director.

Everyone feels that Samantha has more importance and screen time. But both Praneetha and Samantha have equal importance, thus making justice for two heroine formula. While Praneetha entertains in the first half, Samantha sways audience in second half. In fact there is not much scope for both heroines in the movie. Nadiya has more importance than these young girls. Nadiya once again attracts after Mirchi. There is not much we can expect from Boman Irani. This role is not of his stature. Anyone could have done that. Ali and Brahmi just join the show. Rao Ramesh once again impresses.
Technically movie is very impressive. Cinematography is excellent. Devi Sri Prasad’s music is a great asset. Songs are already hit. Devi has proved his prowess even in re-recording. He has shown great maturity in scenes involving deep emotion and sentiment. That’s why he is the third pillar of Attharintiki daredi. Editing and art direction chip in decently. Full credit goes to director for extracting such impressive work from all.
Aren’t there any demerits in Attharintiki daredi? There are… but Pawan’s image and performance pushes them into oblivion. Pawan does not appear like a driver at any moment. Don’t know whether that was done wantedly or proper care not taken. No one in the home says nothing even if he does so much hungama. But Trivikram has taken some care and narrated the reason for getting into home as driver through some characters. Some cinematic elements are there which have to be forgotten conveniently. Though its a family story, Trivikram has included action episodes at regular intervals to satisfy Pawan Kalyan fans.

In crisp, Attharintiki daredi is a class movie by an action hero who has a cult mass following. That does not mean that it’s an out right class flick. There are also enough mass ingredients. Film makers have made an commendable attempt of coming up with a family movie with a star hero, which can be watched by the whole family together. There is no doubt that, this Trivikram style flick made with the aim of entertaining audience of all sections, will sure hit the bull’s eye. So all Powerstar fans, get ready for celebrations.
