Review : Prema Katha Chitram

Film makers have been following set path for making horror movies. No director has tried to present horror movie differently by digressing from the set path. As a result horror movies have been watched by just a special section of audience who are interested in them. But for the first time, Prema katha chitram unit made refreshing attempt at horror movies by transgressing from the already set formula. Prema katha chitram makers have mixed horror with fun and dished out an altogether new genre film. Prema katha chitram is made with just four characters in a single location. Sudhir (Sudhir Babu), Nandita (Nandita), Praveen (Praveen) and Saptagiri come to a guest house in the process of attempting suicide due to various reasons. But Praveen postpones suicides for three days on various reasons and makes sure that Sudhir and Nandita get close to each other. Story takes an unexpected turn at the same phase. It takes an horror turn. How the story ends after taking this turn is the crux of the movie.
Normally horror movies are associated with dark shades, shrill re-recording effects, black magic and all sorts of spooky elements. But Prema katha chitram does away with all these. Mixing fear with fun is the basic point of this story. Audience can expect when and why devil comes but screenplay succeeds in maintaining suspense. Scenes have been written freshly. Though dialogues reminded ‘Ee rojullo’ and Busstop movies at times, as a whole dialogue comedy clicked. Film’s first half ends with a perfect twist. Though second half appears to be slightly dragging, by introducing climax at the right moment, director succeeds in maintaining tempo. In fact there is no need of ‘Vennelina cheekatina’ remix song in second half. But director might have included it, to avoid complete horror brand for the movie.
Heroine, cinematography and re-recording are big assets for Prema katha chitram. As director Prabhakar Reddy himself has handled camera, he did a great job. Re-recording is fine without any harsh and shrill sounds which we encounter in horror movies. Nandita got a good role in her second film itself. Her character is like the one which Vikram played in Aparichitudu. Though it’s just her second film, she has done an excellent job. In fact Sudhir got overshadowed by Nandita’s performance. Praveen and Saptagiri helped the movie run fast with their comedy. JB’s music is ok. While one song is a remix, another song appeared to be inspired from recently released Gajaraju movie.
In crisp, Prema katha chitram makes, audience stay in the theatres for two hours entertaining enough.
